Preparing to Go

We’re getting everything together to leave tomorrow morning for Disney World.  ALl I really have to do is get some medicine filled before I go and make sure we have all our meds and other things.  We bought most of our supplies and have our suitcases packed.  The really big thing left is picking up the rental car at lunch–Bob and my oldest are taking care of that.  I hate packing because I always feel like I’m going to forget something important.  But I think we have it all together this time. The kids are washing the last of the dishes and we’re going to eat out the rest of the day :).

I’m really happy with how I am feeling thus far this summer.  I’ve largely stayed awake during the days and I haven’t been using caffeine to do it–I’ve just been  able to function better than usual. I’ve stayed up with my class and am accomplishing good things in it.  I hate that Bob doesn’t feel comfortable with me leaving this fall and having to cancel that, but I understand his feelings.  Maybe if I have a good spring I can sign up for the spring one. We will see.

Hope everyone enjoys their independence day!

I finally finished my book project yesterday and sent it in to a contest for nonfiction manuscripts.  I titled it “Confessions of a Lazy Southern Cook: A Food Memoir”.  I finished up with an article about being thankful for all the blessings God gives us–food, family, etc. and began it with an article about the New Year tradition of cooking blackeyed peas and turnip greens for good fortune.  I talked about birthday cakes, Chinese food, wedding preparations, the entire year of events that I covered in my food column when I was writing it.  It came out to 100 pages without images–with images it would be just a niffy little cookbook I think.  And I can always continue working on it to flesh it out and put in more details, etc. if I decided to use it for my thesis.  So we will see what comes of it.

We’re getting ready to go to Disney World and let the younger girls dance in a parade in Epcot.  We’re packing and trying to get everything together for the drive.  Right now the children are picking out CD’s to listen to on the drive.  Hopefully the vehicle we’re renting has a CD player in it.  We’re also taking books and will hopefully get a lot of reading done.  I’m taking the rest of my scripts for my class and will read them,  then will read some other books I have picked out.  I’ve got everything done for my class that I can do up to this date and have gotten my A for my first paper so I am excited about that.

I have really felt well the past few days.  I’ve been busy and a little stressed but have handled it fine.  It makes me hopeful for the rest of the summer.   I hope this trip goes well–I’m taking along my Xanax just in case.  We’ve been making preparations for it since about January so we’ve really been anticipating it.  We leave Saturday and come back July 4.  I”ll be taking a hiatus from the blog for the trip, but don’t abandon me–take a look back through the archives and see how far I’ve come in the almost-two years I’ve been keeping this blog.  Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of June and goof Fourth of July weekend!

Way Busy

Yesterday was complicated all over again. Culminated in me backing into a lady as I dropped the youngest one off at dance.  So that was fun–she had a brand-new car and I dented it.  She was nice enough about it.  So we got the cops out there and the whole catastrophe.

Getting ready for the trip and trying to get everybody’s laundry done. ALmost done with that. Done almost all my classwork for before I leave–I have one more assignment but it not going to be ready until tomorrow for me to respond to.  So.

For my project, I’ve got three more articles to type in and then I have to edit it and make sure the MSS is clean.  I’m so looking forward to finishing.  Then I will send it off and see what comes of it.

Another hectic day is ahead of me so I will quit for now,  Hope everyone has  a good rest of the week!

Fast-moving Day

Today has been busy in a very stressful way–had to run to Wal-Mart, get lunch, listen to the sisters fight, go to tutoring, go to dance practice, turn in my discussion points for class, and deal with the two dancers coming home sick from practice out in the heat.  And waiting for my husband to get home from work.  I’m very frazzled right now.

WE’re trying to get ready to go to Disney Saturday and that’s going to be a pain.  Getting clothes organized and all such as that.  WE’ll be gone for a week and are trying to.   keep all the plates spinning before we go and get them down out of the air one at a time.   So we will see what happens with that this week.

I have to go pick up meds as soon as my husband gets home and we will see about  that then.  I’m almost finished with my food project but am having trouble typing the last little bits.  I’m hoping to finish Thursday so I can turn it in Friday before we leave.  So it’s busy, busy, busy all around and I just want to get through it all.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Stateside Arrived

So my oldest is safely home and asleep.  We spent a long time talking last night so I didn’t get to post.  But she had an good flight and got home with lots of wonderful memories and keepsakes.

I stayed up late last night–I got inspired to go ahead and do my paper due Sunday so I did.  I still have to do my work cited page but that won’t be hard.  I did it on Biblical allusions in the one of the plays we were assigned.  So that was fun last night.

Now it’s down to the stretch trying to finish my project for the food memoir before we leave.  I burned myself out on it and haven’t typed hardly at all on it this week.  I only have less than ten more to type in to be able to send it off so I want to do it and at least try it in this contest.  SO I still have some work ahead of me on that.  ANd I still don’t have a firm title.  “Confessions of a Southern Cook” is still sounding the best,  so Imay jus tgo with that as a working title and see what they think.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

ALl the ugly green paint is gone!  I have a lovely new yellow kitchen and a lilac laundry room and half-bath.  SO I am happier than ever with my house.  I think it’s really going to do some nice things for my attitude seeing pretty colors everywhere.

So tomorrow I pick my oldest up in Columbus flying back in from Scotland.  She’s going to crash at a hotel as soon as she gets in and I’ll wake her up sometime the next morning and we’ll come home.  I will be happy to see her.  I just hope she’s enjoyed it as much as it seems.

Trying to make sense of my 20th Century Drama class.  The schedule is all goofed up and I’m wondering how he’s ever going to get it back on track.  As long as his goofiness doesn’t affect my grade we are good to go.

I need to slow down a little next week before   my girls go dancing at Disney World.   I’m tired.   But I have my clothes organized already and will have it all done before we go next Saturday.  I’ll be taking a hiatus from the blog and concentrate on trying to have fun.Hope everyone has a good rest of the week!

We’ve been having someone paint the interior of our house this week–they finished the kitchen and the dining room today, so they’ll do the half-bath and laundry room tomorrow.  I’m looking forward to finishing it.  Hopefully we won’t paint again until all the girls have moved out.

So sleepy.  I’ ve stayed off the caffeine so that is good.  BUt I am sleepy today.  But it could be the paint fumes.  We’ve got an air filter running trying to get them out of the house.

I’m still typing on my project.  I have only fourteen more articles to do.  SO I am on the downslope of finishing it.  I’m looking forward to being done.  WOrking on a food book is making me hungry all the time.

Hope everyone has a good day.  I am getting ready to wind down.  I really am sleepy.

My class is supposed to start in earnest this week, I hope.  We’ve been slacking because so many students were in an overlapping class on campus.  Luckily it’s a nine-week class so we have time to catch up.  I read the third play this weekend and kind of had my mind blown–very interesting, though.

I’m going to do as much typing as I can this week and see what all I can get done on it before my oldest gets home. I plan to type while I’m gone picking he up as  well and hopefully I can finish everything.  We will see how it turns out.  I’m thinking more now to title it “Confessions of a Southern Cook “. We will see.

Hope everyone has a good week.  THe painter is supposed to show up today and get started on trim work and ceilings.  So we will see how it goes.  I’m so looking forward to the new colors.

I keep trying to think of a good title for my new project.  It’s not really a cookbook, even though there are recipes in it.  It’s not really telling people how to cook, it’s more me telling how I feel about cooking.  Its got bits of memoir in it talking about growing up in rural Mississippi,  about my family growing up, and about my kids being young.

Musings of a Lazy Southern Cook is one of the ones that keeps coming to mind.  The book talks a lot about shortcuts, about food definitions,  etc.  I think it would be an interesting read, but what do I know?  It will also serve as a good backup plan in case the bipolar book doesn’t work out for my thesis.

My oldest come shone a week from yesterday. I guess I could have her read it and see what she thinks about it.  Being the foodie that she is.

I took the morning off and went and got a massage.  My aches and pains are still there, but my attitude is way better than yesterday.  SO I count that as a plus.  I just can’t be as busy as I as yesterday–it’s too much.  So I am going to try to go slower today.

Buzzing along on my project–I’m about to do a May column which means I will soon be halfway through the “year” the book entails.  Still not sure what the MSS is going to tune out to be.  Bu it will be something I can send off and see how it does.  So that is how I am looking at it.

Forgot my meds this morning.  Just took them just now and they should be kicked in after lunch.  We will see how things go.
